🇧🇷 Praia do Forte, Vila Verde (e Azul) é um trabalho que relaciona a fotografia com dois outros interesses meus, a ecologia e o design urbano.

Quando me refiro à ecologia, penso na preservação e manejo dos recursos naturais, na valorização desses recursos, e na visão de que o progresso é errôneo ao não considerar os recursos naturais, e destrui-los em nome dos recursos econômicos. Esse é um assunto bastante discutível, e vejo a necessidade de buscar se estabelecer um equilíbrio entre progresso e preservação dos recursos naturais.

Quando me refiro ao design urbano, penso na capacidade do ser humano conceber o ambiente urbano de uma forma inteligente, de forma que esse ambiente seja o mais satisfatório, prazeroso e interessante de se viver e visitar. É uma arte.

Praia do Forte é uma vila turística que fica a 78km de distância de Salvador e tem menos de 2 mil habitantes. Tem muitos hotéis e condomínios luxuosos, além de hospedagens mais acessíveis. Tem câmeras por toda a vila e na orla, pra reforçar a segurança das pessoas. É um lugar bastante tranquilo, e com ótima qualidade de vida. Além da praia com águas gostosas, ótimas ondas pra surf, um parque ecológico pra caminhar ou pedalar, tem uma característica que me chamou a atenção em especial: toda a vila é arborizada, é um lugar super verde.

Esse verde não só é charmoso, como também influi no clima e na sensação que a cidade passa pra quem a frequenta. Especialmente da primeira vez que visitei a Praia do Forte tive uma sensação positiva, de que é um lugar com uma energia muito boa, que vem desse verde. Foi então que decidi construir esse trabalho fotográfico.

Vejo a Praia do Forte como um modelo de cidade ecológica e design urbano. Modelo, para mim, significa alto padrão, algo que pode (ou deve) ser emulado. É claro que a Praia do Forte fica numa zona ecológica, de mata atlântica, o que facilita as coisas pra que a cidade tenha um design ecológico. Mas penso, à princípio, que design é criação, e que qualquer cidade pode, em certa medida, optar por um design ecológico. Pra ter verde é preciso plantar e deixar crescer, é preciso ter espaço pro verde, e isso pode ser resolvido. 

As pessoas investem dinheiro em suas habitações privadas, muitas vezes pagam caro, pra ter moradias belas e confortáveis. Já a cidade é o habitat da coletividade, e considerando o bem-estar de uma cidade ecológica, o quanto os cidadãos ganham com isso em qualidade de vida, é questão de decidir investir no design verde. Quem sabe, no futuro, algumas cidades copiem o modelo ecológico da Praia do Forte, e se tornem cidades verdes? 

Já o azul é do mar, e nem toda cidade pode ser azul. É um privilégio de apenas algumas. Mas todas as cidades, à princípio, podem ser verdes.

🇺🇲 Praia do Forte, Green (and Blue) Village is a work that relates photography with two other interests of mine, ecology and urban design.

When I refer to ecology, I think about the preservation and management of natural resources, in valuing those resources, and in the vision that progress is wrong whenever it doesn't take natural resources in consideration, and destroys them in the name of economic resources. This is a very debatable subject, and I see the need to try to establish a balance between progress and the preservation of natural resources.

When I refer to urban design, I think about the capacity of the human being to conceive the urban environment intelligently, in a way that this environment becomes the most satisfactory, pleasant, and interesting to live in and to visit. This is an art.

Praia do Forte is a turistic village that is 78km north of Salvador, Bahia, and has less than 2.000 inhabitants. It's got lots of luxurious hotels and condos, and some affordable lodging too. It's got cameras all over the village and on the shore, to reinforce people's security. It's a very tranquil place, with a great life quality. Besides the beach with pleasant water, great surfing waves, and an eco park where people can walk or cycle, one feature, in special, caught my attention: the village is super green, there are trees and plants all over.

This green is not only charming, but also affects the climate and the sensation the city passes to who's there, it feels good. Especially the first time I visited Praia do Forte I had a positive sensation, a good vibe coming from the green. Then I decided to construct this photo work.

I see Praia do Forte as a model of an ecological city and urban design. Model, to me, means high standard, and something that can (or should) be emulated. Of course Praia do Forte is situated in an ecological zone, of Atlantic Forest, which makes things easier for the city to have an ecological design. But I think at first any city can have an ecological design, to a certain extent. All it takes to have green is to plant and let it grow, and to have room for the green to grow, and this can be solved.

People invest money in their private living spaces, many times pay a lot of money to have beautiful and comfortable spaces. On the other hand, the city is the habitat of the collectivity, and considering the well-being of an ecological city, how much life quality the citizens get with that, it's a matter of deciding to invest in green design. Maybe in the future some cities could copy the ecological model of Praia do Forte, and become green, why not?

In relation to the blue of the sea, not every city can be blue. It's a privilege of only some. But every city, at first, can be green.
